Palma.Never mind the rich and famous who have popped up on the island so far this Summer, the past few weeks have been a hive of activity in Majorcan waters and the Club de Mar with some of the world's largest and most luxurious super yachts putting into port.
The most spectacular was Topaz, the fifth largest super yacht in the world and the largest to have ever moored up in the Club de Mar, Built under huge secrecy Lürssen, she has taken yacht spotters and the industry alike by storm.
Said to have been commission by a member of the Saudi royal family, at 147 metres, her gross tonnage is 11'589.
But she was not the only super yacht to catch everyone's eyes. The Rising Sun, with her 82 bedrooms and has spent nearly the past two weeks cruising round Majorca with Bruce Springsteen and family on board.
Again, built by Germany's Lürssen, it was originally purchased by Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle Corporation, and is currently owned by David Geffen. The yacht is the tenth largest in the world with a length of almost 138 metres (453 ft). It reportedly cost over US$200 million to build.Other nautical delights have been Venus which was designed by Philippe Starck's design company Ubik and built by Feadship for the late entrepreneur Steve Jobs. Jobs died in October 2011, the yacht was unveiled a year later at a cost of more than 100 million.
The Russian-owned super yacht A also made a return as did Radiant.
Currently owned owned by the Al Futtaim family from the United Arab Emirates, the 110 metre super yacht cost over 200 million dollars to build.
