The activity in local ports and marinas during June and July was bellow expectations due to the recession although from the Nautical Club Association and the Balearic Nautical Sports Facilities the figures registered this month so far inspire more confidence the situation will improve. Luckily the situation is changing. We are in the peak of the Summer and that change is visible, considering we even have a waiting list. Rental fees from moorings during the high season are the main source of income for us and the ones with most impact on our finances, which is directly connected with our end of the year results, sources from the club said. Andraitx, Sa Rapita and Pollensa are the ports in greatest demand for moorings for medium size boats along with Portals and the Club de Mar.
But from the association, concerns remain on whether the increase in August is a false indicator on whether things are actually improving. The demand grew but only because there are less boats leaving and space is scarce. Mooring fees are the same, but even with cheaper fuel, boat owners are being more careful before using their vessels. They rarely go far away and prefer to stay near by to save petrol. Everyone is more cautious.
