Cala Barques beach refill

Palma.—The regional Environment ministry has given the nod to Central Government's Coastal department's plans to regenerate the beach at Cala Barques in the municipality of Pollensa. But before anything can go ahead, the Council of Majorca has to be consulted over archaeological remains that have been found in the area so that any heritage is not damaged by the beach refill scheme. Also a full up-to-date study of the development of the coastline as it stands today has to be made as the current one dates back to 2004.

The Balearic government had rejected an initial plan by the Coastal department which aimed at a more integral reform of the area of Cala Sant Vicenç of which Cala Barques is a part. The regional Environment ministry said that less “dramatic” solutions were needed.
