A technical failure in a Movistar exchange in Alicente at noon yesterday left subscribers in the Balearics, Valencia, Murcia and Alicante with no coverage.
A company spokesman said that service had been restored in Murcia, Alicante and part of Valencia by 1.30pm, while mobile phones in the Balearics were back to normal an hour later.
The fault meant that subscribers could neither make nor receive calls.
The spokesman was unable to say how many people were affected by the breakdown.
