MAJORCAN FANS MOURN THE DEATH OF MICHAEL JACKSON

STAFF REPORTER
MICHAEL Jackson fans across the world as well as in Majorca yesterday mourned the death of their idol as his memorial ceremony went underway in downtown Los Angeles.

John Smith, a great fan who lives in Sa Coma, told the Bulletin yesterday how “devastated” he had been when he learnt of Jackson's death.
John saw him twice on tour; once in 1987 during his Bad tour and a second time in 1992 during his Dangerous tour. He said the King of Pop had been “absolutely fantastic” in concert.

Like many fans, John Smith believes Jackson will be remembered as a musical pioneer both for his singing as well as for his dancing.
The Majorcan resident said that apart from his legacy, Michael Jackson also had a major positive impact on the black community worldwide.
He has been a major King of Pop fan all his life and as far as he is concerned Michael Jackson is “simply the best”.
John Smith contacted the Bulletin on behalf of himself and his family to find out whether there would be any kind of memorial taking place in Majorca.
In Los Angeles, some 18'000 fans crowded into the Staples Centre sports arena and a nearby overflow theatre for the two-hour ceremony memorializing the pop star who died June 25 after suffering cardiac arrest in his Los Angeles mansion. Media reports have said Michael Jackson is expected to be buried in a private family service in Los Angeles ahead of the memorial.

There has been no official memorial service confirmed on the island so far, although since his death, the popularity of Jackson's records has soared on the island as well as on the mainland.

Michael Jackson never performed on the island himself, although his sister Janet Jackson did perform in Magaluf for the opening of BCM in 1988.
