PALMA
THE Balearic Minister for Tourism, Miguel Nadal, will head a delegation to Britain today on a mission to try and alter the country's habit of booking their holidays at the last minute and individually.
Nadal is going to be holding meetings with leading UK tour operators and travel chiefs at Wimbledon to discuss the latest booking figures, but he said yesterday that 50 percent of British holiday makers are now booking on line and are not buying package holidays.
And the Minister intends to discuss ways of encouraging Britons to book their holidays early as opposed to the last minute. Nadal claimed yesterday that May was not a bad month for tourism and that June appears to have performed slightly better.
But, tourism figures are still down on last year and he refused to cast any kind of forecast as to how the tourism numbers will stack up in July and August. However, he did say he was moderately optimistic.
