THE 16-year-old girl apparently stabbed by her father in Can Picafort on Monday evening was yesterday discharged from Manacor Hospital where she was treated for her wounds. According to medical sources at the hospital, despite the teenager, having been apparently hit over the head with a rock and then stabbed three times, the injuries were fortunately superficial and she was given the all clear yesterday morning. The incident happened at around 6pm on Monday at the family home in Avenida Golf in Can Picafort, in the north east of the island during an argument between the 50-year-old father and her. The injured teenager managed to eventually escape her alleged attacker and run into the street to raise the alarm before being taken in by a worried neighbour. She lost a lot of blood from her multiple injuries in the process but doctors said that none of her vital organs were damaged.
An ambulance team rushed to the scene assisted by members of the Local Police and the Guardia Civil.
The alleged attacker, the 16-year-old's father, was found at the entrance to the house.
He apparently tried to resist arrest but was eventually led away by the Guardia Civil while his daughter was given first aid treatment at the scene before being moved to Manacor Hospital. He was waiting to appear before a preliminary hearing in Inca yesterday.
The mother was also questioned by the Guardia Civil as the police tried to confirm what exactly happened and why.
It is understood that the relationship between the father and daughter has been strained lately.
