FIFTEEN new telephone assistants are to be employed to reinforce the service provided by the 112 Emergency Service (SEIB).
The Balearic Government yesterday announced that the new employees would begin work once they completed a training course.
There are 30 people enrolled in the course, which begins this Monday.
Those wishing to take part on the course must have completed Secondary Education or have one year of Professional Training; have at least a B in Catalan or be able to pass a test in the language; have computer skills, typing skills and a good knowledge of the islands.
The course is of two weeks duration and it is hoped that the new employees will be able to begin work by the middle of next month.
Five other employees of the service began work earlier this year after completing a course last April.
On that occasion, 13 took part in the course.
The new assistants will also reinforce the service the SEIB provides in languages outside of Catalan and Spanish.
Two of those taking part on the course speak English, while another three speak English and German.
Last year, the SEIB attended 3'903 incidents in English, 1'464 in German and 120 in French.
