THE economist Onofre Martorell said yesterday that there is no alternative to sun and sea tourism is the Balearics, but estimated that it needs retouching to attract a higher quality visitor and to prolong the season, which will require a recovery of obsolete places which still exist. Martorell was giving a press conference to present the 20th Annual Congress of the European Association of Company Direction and Economy which will take place in Palma from June 5 to 7, when he made his remarks about the Balearic tourist situation, which he denied was in decline. This expert said that he was very concerned about the proliferation of all inclusive deals, although he added that it does encourage hotel tourism rather than residential which does not generate employment. The all inclusive deals could do a lot of damage to the tourism sector and if they stop it will cause a decline in tourism and hotel prices will fall, explained Martorell.
