Balearic promenades to get attention from Ministry

ALL PROMENADE PROJECTS WILL BE REVIEWED AND PRIORITISED, SAID FERNANDEZ

ALL the promenades in Majorca are to be assessed and those that are found to be in need of conservation will be placed on a priorisation list.
This was the agreement that came out of yesterday's Ministry meeting and lasted more than two hours.
The Director General for the Coastline at the Ministry for the Environment, José Fernández, has guaranteed to revise all project plans for the promenades on the Balearic coastline. He also said he would prioritise those areas in need of conservation
He expressed these statements in front of representatives from the environmental group, GOB, such as Miquel Camps for Minorca, Miguel Angel March and Toni Muñoz for Majorca and Neus Part for Ibiza. All of these environmental representatives expressed their satisfaction on these agreements, as it means that the Ministry is taking into account the management of the coastline. These promenades were made all the more worse by the “whimsical and pharaonical” initiatives that were developed when Jaume Matas was the Minister for the Environment, said the GOB representatives and José Fernández. The GOB representatives described this period as “a sad era for the Ministry for the Environmnet”.
José Fernández made another agreement with the GOB representatives, stating “not to improvise the beach regeneration projects”, which has happened in the past “and declared incorrect by the European Union”. Furthermore, the Director General for the Coastline, agreed to initiate all the demarcation projects before his position comes to an end. These projects have been determined in part by the central government. The GOB representatives said that the conservation of areas like Ses Feixes and Es Cubells in Ibiza and Ses Fontanelles in Majorca, rely on action from the Ministry.
