EARLY yesterday afternoon, the emergency service received a call reporting that a car had plunged nearly five metres into the dry Esporles river bed.
Members of the Local Police and two ambulances were rapidly on the scene where they found the 50-year-old driver and lone occupant of the vehicle still inside the white Peugeot 106.
According to police sources, it appears that the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the half metre high protective dry stone wall alongside the road twice.
On the first occasion, the vehicle remained on the road, but when he hit the wall the second time, ten metres further down the road, the vehicle went over the wall and down into the dry river bed.
The driver was eventually rescued and taken to hospital suffering from multiple bruising to various parts of his body as well as an injury to his head. Police have opened a full investigation and are waiting for eye witnesses to come forward
