Palma.—After searching throughout the night, Guardia Civil mountain rescue teams with the aid of fire fighters finally found a total of 13 lost hikers yesterday morning.

The alarm was raised at 8pm on Sunday night and initially, it was thought that two groups of hikers, five Germans and four Spaniards were lost in different parts of the Tramuntana mountains,.

In the end, the total was 13.
The Guardia Civil Mountain rescue Team (GREIM) and the Majorca Fire Brigade Mountain Rescue Team immediately mounted joint searches which continued throughout the night.

Then, yesterday morning at 8am, the German hikers were found near the Torrente de Pareis
The group was made up of four Germans aged between 20 and 22 and three others whom they had met and teamed up with at the start of their excursion on Sunday morning.

The group also included four German women who their rescuers found naked and huddled round a camp fire waiting for their clothes to dry.
All were found safe and well although some were suffering from mild hypothermia and they had no provisions left.
Just after 9.30am, the other group of Spanish hikers was found near sa Fosca. All of the hikers were gradually evacuated to a restaurant near Escorca by a Guardia Civil helicopter which had to make several trips to transfer the hikers to safety.

To date, this year has been one of the busiest in recent years for the mountain rescue teams.
