HOTELS on the Playa de Palma, in Arenal, Palma itself and Paguera will have around 80 percent occupation during Easter week.
These are the resorts most in demand by tourists who come to Majorca at Easter. The average occupation of the rest of the tourist establishments which will be open will be around 60 percent, according to figures from the Majorcan Hoteliers Federation (FEHM).
According to these figures, some 500 hotels will be open this week, practically half of the hotels which are members of FEHM (some 1'100), offering 208'000 beds.
With regard to this, the managing director of the Balearic Institute for Tourism (Ibatur), Raimon Alabern, confirmed that the areas of the Playa de Palma, Calvia and Palma itself will be those which have the most occupation.
Destinations such as the Playas de Muro, Cala Mayor and inland hotels will also have a high level of occupation taking into account that the percentage of hotel beds in these place in somewhat lower, he said. In addition to this he said that Palma had played a great role in the promotion of cultural, sport and leisure tourism, although he did say that hotels outside the city have also aroused great interest among the tourists.
Apart from the classic markets, such as Germany and the United Kingdom, Spanish tourism is having an excellent year. In January and February the Balearics recorded a 20 percent increase in Spanish tourism, he said.
With regard to this, he added that he thinks Spaniards are rediscovering the Balearics, especially during the medium and low seasons, and not just through Imserso (pensioner travel), but also families and partners come here to enjoy short breaks. He added they are discovering what was hitherto unknown to them.
The Spanish tourists are discovering the Balearic culture, sport and leisure, and the gastronomy and the landscape of the islands. This is in addition to coming here in search of sun and sea.
