MORE than half the accidents in the Balearics which happen outside the workplace take place at home, mostly from overexertion and falls, incidents which cause many days off work and school. This was confirmed by the Balearic Minister of Work and Training, Cristobal Huguet, during the presentation of the guide Accidents in the Home, which is directed at making people aware of the necessity of taking precautions to reduce domestic accidents. According to figures given by the Minister, in 2002 there were an average of 2.46 domestic accidents for every 100 residents. However, the incidence of domestic accidents is slightly lower than other regions. For example, in Catalonia it is 3 for every 100 residents, followed by Murcia with 5.
