MARÍA Salom, number one Popular Party candidate for election to central government, was unequivocal in her statement yesterday that she would prefer the Catalonian Republican Left Secretary General, Josep Lluís Carod-Rovira to remain in Catalonia. Carod-Rovira, the politician at the centre of the controversy surrounding the truce that the Basque separatist organisation ETA has called with Catalonia, is due in Majorca today to present two of his books on the occasion of Catalan Book Week. Salom said Carod had shown gross irresponsibility in secretly negotiating a truce between ETA and Catalonia.
