POLLENSA
THERE will be two new faces taking services at St. Andrew's Puerto Pollensa during the next few months.
Canon Mel Smith and his wife, Kasia, arrive on Thursday 18th February to do locum duty until 2nd March. Mel was born in the Potteries and trained at Kings College London and St. Augustine's College, Canterbury.
He has worked in various parishes throughout the Black Country and at the moment works for the Bishop of Worcester as Parish Development Officer. He has two children, Christopher and Helen and became a grandfather for the first time last year. He will be followed on 19th March until 19th May by The Reverend Paul Southern. Paul retired last year and since then has been a locum priest in the Diocese of Europe having helped in Palma, on the Costa del Sol and before arriving in Majorca is doing locum duty in Ibiza until the end of February.
He is married to Lesley and has been a regular visitor to Majorca over the years, where they usually rent a flat for a month at a time usually out of season.
SUPPORTED
They will be supported by both Congregational Wardens, Geoff Thomas and Mary Payne, and Chaplain of Majorca Robert Ellis, with Rev. Roy Greenwood also filling important gaps.
In fact, it will be business as usual' during the present vacancy and the Committee are hoping that a permanent replacement priest will be appointed before the summer.
The post has been advertised and the discernment process has already started.
