Call for explanation from electricity chief over high bills

STAFF REPORTER
THE Socialist party in the Balearic Parliament said yesterday that it is “the right” moment for regional government to call on the president of electricity supply company, GESA - Bartomeu Reus - to allay public fears over what have been described as “alarming” increases in both household and company power bills.

Antoni Dieguez, spokesman for the regional socialist group PSIB-PSOE said that he hoped that Reus could attend a parliamentary session within the next two weeks to provide “explanations” over just why bills have soared, sometimes beyond the means of the consumer, in such a short space of time. He said that his party felt it necessary to ask questions about the new tariff rules which GESA had introduced at the end of last year.
