THE President of the Official College of Architects, Luis Corral, warned yesterday that there will be no signs of a recovery in the building industry until at least 2011. Corral said that the increase in public construction projects and plans to allow hoteliers to increase the size of their businesses will not mean that the industry will be pulled out of recession.
Corral said that 2008 saw the number of homes being built fall by 66 percent.
He said that the slowdown in the building industry had hit architects hard and that they had not received any new building projects since the summer of 2007. Corral said that they had warned the local authorities back in the summer of the recession which lay ahead. Corral said that the economic climate would also see a change in the industry. He said that more architects would join larger companies rather than working for themselves.
