THE Balearic Occupational Service (SOIB) and the Workers Commissions trade union (CCOO) will this year launch a joint programme which will aim to help more than a thousand unemployed Majorcan women to fill the so-called digital gap by offering them free courses in Information Technology. The project, financed by the SOIB at a cost of 797'960 euros, will be directed at unemployed Balearic women, a group which increased slightly to 21'062 in 2005 from 21'019 in 2004. The programme will be put into effect immediately under the slogan, we are working so you can work equally and will offer courses through the Occupational Information and Orientation Service of the unions with the help of the SOIB which is financing the project with funds from the European programme EQUAL. The project expects 650 women in Palma, 175 in Inca and others in Manacor to attend the courses, which will be of 225 and 325 hours duration and delivered in private centres. The registers for the first two are open until January 30.
