Palma.Last year, Spanish financial institutions increased the fees charged to its customers to have a debit card by an average of 17.05%, whilst credit card holders suffered an increase of 9.65%.
According to the latest data released by the Bank of Spain, banks charged their customers an average of 20.25 for a debit card, almost three euros more than the 17.30 they were charging at the end of 2010.
The commission imposed on credit cards in 2011 rose to 37.71, 3.32 more than a year earlier.
However, not all customers pay banks the same for their credit cards, with the maximum fee reaching as much as 60, compared to 47 a year earlier, while the minimum fee remained unchanged at 13.52.
With respect to debit cards, the maximum fee was 30 euros in 2011, five more than in 2010, whilst the minimum fee remained unaffected (4.51).
