Palma hotel prices are the most expensive in December

Madrid.— Spanish hotel prices have reached the end of the year with an average per person per night of 87 euros, price watchdog www.trivago.es reported yesterday.

Along with January 2012, claimed the website in its monthly study, the figure is the lowest of the year.
December generally is one of the months of the year when hotel prices are at their lowest and on a month-on-month basis, hotels are now 6 percent cheaper than they were in November this year.

However, Palma is the most expensive city in Spain in which to spend a night this month where costs average out at 111 euros. The city is even dearer than Barcelona (101 euros), San Sebastian (99) and Segovia (92).

At the other end of the scale, Murcia is the city where it's cheapest to spend a night in a hotel this month costing an average of just 54 euros. Also at the bargain end are establishments in Zaragoza (57 euros), La Coruña and Lugo (58) and Alicante (59).

The watchdog said that for years, hotel prices have been at their most expensive in the summer months but this year, rooms have been dearest in spring and autumn. Elsewhere in Europe, hotel prices in top holiday destinations have also fallen this month; in Istanbul and Brussels by 12%, and in London, Venice and Athens by 7%.
