Sa Pobla aims to “sober up” its fiesta

Sa Pobla.—Sa Pobla town council is determined that the brawling and drunkenness which spoiled last years Santa Margalida and Sant Jaume fiestas in the town won't be repeated.

The binge drinking last year had centred around the so-called “Studio 54” evening which converted the Plaza Mayor in Sa Pobla into an enormous open air discotheque. So this year, the council are changing the flavour of the evening of Saturday, 21st July by holding a ballroom dancing session for the older generation with various forms of musical accompaniment..

Mayor Biel Serra said yesterday that he wants to restore the family atmosphere of the open air parties in the town.
So although the younger generation will have their party night on Thursday 19th July, it will be stage managed by organisers with parades, playback sessions and performances by well known local group from Sa Pobla who had their heyday in the 1980s, Rompiendo Cuerdas.
