PALMA
NEXT Thursday is the 25th anniversary of the death of the famous Catalan artist Joan Miró, who spent much of his life at his studio in Palma, and two important exhibitions are open in the city to commemorate his life and work.

Earlier this week, an exhibition of over 120 posters created by Miró opened at the Es Baluard Museum of Contemporary Art in Palma and today, an exhibition of the feminine side to Miró's work opens at the Fundación Pilar y Joan Miró in Cala Major where his studio will also be open to the public. The exhibition will feature works of art dedicated to the female image between 1917 and 1981.

According to the foundation the exhibition offers a new and unusual insight into the artist's work. Last night giant versions of the surreal characters created by Miró paraded and danced through the streets of Palma to mark the start of the anniversary commemoration.
