LEADER of the Balearic Parliament and mayor of Inca, Pere Rotger, received a death threat yesterday in the form of a slogan daubed outside his home during the early hours of the morning.
Lodging his intentions with the Guardia Civil to take out legal proceedings, Rotger, who is also leader of the Partido Popular on Majorca, reported that the scrawled threat had read death to a .... alongside the symbol of a nazi swastika.
The graffiti had been paint sprayed onto a metallic entrance door to Rotger's property on the outskirts of Inca. I don't feel threatened and I believe that the slogan is the work of narrow-minded mischief-makers, declared the Majorcan Partido Popular leader. He emphasised that it was his family who had been most affected.
Rotger believes that this type of violent approach lacks sense as it fails to offer those of a different school of thought the chance to air their views.
He attributed the written threat to the work offour young political fanatics.
This is the second occasion in which the mayor of Inca has had slogans daubed at his home, although the one that was discovered in August last year, was an objection to plans for a theme park in Inca, but did not contain any threatening text.
The park now looks set to be built in the municipality of Calvia.
In response to the graffiti beleaguering Pere Rotger's family, the Partido Popular issued a communiqué condemning the episode and defending moves to eradicate such practices through the letter of the law.
