DEMONSTRATORS have attacked the offices of Spain's ruling party with excrement and graffiti over its support for the U.S.-led war on Iraq, officials said yesterday. More than 120 incidents have happened across the country in the past eight days, Popular Party (PP) Secretary-General Javier Arenas told a news conference. We are talking about people throwing bottles and excrement, smashing windows, writing insulting graffiti...lighting fires, tearing down signs, he said. What type of pacifism are we talking about? There's no bigger contradiction than those who say they are defending peace by defending the use of violence, Arenas added. Polls show an overwhelming majority of Spaniards oppose Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar's unflinching support for U.S. President George W. Bush and there have been street demonstrations against the war practically every day.
