Government promotes job creation schemes

THE Balearic minister of labour will spend 18.3 million euros on job promotion, and expects to create 2'418 new jobs this year, most of them for young people. This was announced yesterday by Miquel Rosselló, the labour minister, who said that this amount was ten per cent more than the sum assigned last year, in an effort “to paliate the effects of the current economic situation.” Rosselló was accompanied by Pere Mascaró, the director of the jobs service, who said that the priority objectives of the job programmes would be under-25s seeking their first job, or those who have been out of work for more than six months. Over 25s who have been out of work for a year would also benefit, he said. Part of the money will be spent on setting up workshop-schools and job creation schemes with town and village councils.
Rosselló said that his department wanted town and island councils to become more involved in job creation schemes.
