No train to Sa Pobla today

THE train service between Inca and Sa Pobla will be suspended today because of improvements to the track, the ministry of public works, housing and transport announced yesterday. The service was interrupted at 10.40pm last night and will not be resumed until the first service tomorrow, Sunday, at 6am.
Work involves building a tunnel for passengers linking two platforms at the Enllaç station and installing two sets of automatic points which will be needed to connect the new line to Manacor. The refurbishment of the Enllaç station and its surrounding area has a budget of 901'520 euros and will be completed next month.
Airlines set up an emergency hot line
THE Spanish Association of Air Lines (AECA) has set up a phone centre for providing information in cases of aviation emergencies and “to provide a rapid response to prevent any accident from being misinterpreted in these moments of sensitivity.” The exchange will be at the Son Bonet airfield, close to Son Sant Joan, to where volunteers of the airline involved will be transferred “when an air crisis arises,” AECA chairman Felip Navío said yesterday. The airlines which form part of the scheme include Air Europa, Spanair, LTE, Air Nostrum, Aebal and Air Berlin.
The volunteers will receive special training. The service will use a 902 number which will be facilitated when the accident occurs.
The Council of Majorca has provided 120'000 euros for the project and Council president Maria Antonia Munar said that the centre was justified by the “probabilities“ of emergencies arising at Palma airport, one of the busiest in Spain, with a plane a minute in summer.
