Parliament unanimously voted in favour of a resolution reminding society that is had an obligation to help immigrants integrate irrespective of their culture and religion, enabling them to form part of Balearic society. The unanimous vote brought an end to months of political tension over the issue of immigration with all parties signing up to the six-point document. The document sets out the need for a responsible debate on immigration involving political and social entities. Another of the six points stresses the need to push ahead with an economic model for sustainable development which involves all sections of society. All members of society have a right to guaranteed health, education and social services, but at the same time, new residents should respect the Balearic culture, democratic values, sexual equality, tolerance and the fundamental liberties outlined in the Constitution.
