All the tourist resorts on the north coast, between Pollença and Can Picafort, will be connected by bus to the future railway line to Alcudia, if the council accepts the proposals of the Balearic government. The Balearic public works ministry has suggested this possibility, which involves siting the railway station in Es Fogueró, next to the Es Murterar turn off. From here, various buses would set off for the nearest resorts between the Port of Pollença to Can Picafort. But this solution would mean that plans for a tram would have to be shelved for the short term. And it would also mean that the railway line does not reach the port of Alcudia. This proposal also backs the suggestion for the route of the railway from Sa Pobla to Alcudia to be close to the Albufera road. Alternative routes have the serious drawback of having to cross the archaeological site of Polentia (the ruins of a Roman city) or the Maistany wetlands. Antoni Alemany, the Mayor of Alcudia, has made it clear that he has still not taken any decision about the final route, nor to the solutions for the train to reach the port. However, he says that one last effort must be made to find a viable solution for the train to reach the port. The government's transport plan includes a bus terminal next to the ferry terminal and the Alcudia council had hoped that the train would also reach this area. Political parties are due to meet over the next few days to make a final decision.
