Hollywood´s finest on set in Majorca

Two of the hottest properties in Hollywood, the Hughes brothers are currently in Majorca filming a trio of multi-million dollar commercials for the United States market. Albert and Allen Hughes, whose latest film is the highly acclaimed From Hell about Jack the Ripper and starring Johnny Depp and Heather Graham, have rarely ventured away from directing feature films since they burst onto the scene in 1993 with the searing gangster movie Menace II Society but they were so impressed with the story boards for the SKYY Blue drink campaign they decide to do it. SKYY Blue is a new “flavoured malt drink” which was exclusively launched in the US last February, now the San Diego-based advertising company Lambesis is preparing the new publicity campaign for next year with a $30 million budget. The core of the campaign will be three television and screen adverts, all being shot in Majorca this week. The commercials being made with local facilities company Palma Pictures, are supposed to be set in the Caribbean, but Majorca was decided as a much better location to operate and actually shoot the series of ads. A crew of over 60 people were on set yesterday along with two helicopters, one a special filming unit brought in from France to film Sky Helicopters in action and a super yacht all the way from Sardinia and Hollywood costs. The three locations are on a superyacht, around a swimming pool, and on the beach, with a cast of male and female models from Palma, Barcelona and Madrid. Yesterday was spent in the air and on the back of a superyacht, although the superyacht was in fact a huge landing platform built specially by Palma Pictures along the sea front in Palma. The advertising company said that the whole idea is that the adverts have a refreshing, relaxing and exciting feel to them. “Having the Hughes brothers on board is just great.” Albert and Allen Hughes began making films at the age of 12, but their formal film education began at high school when Allen took a TV production course. They then made a short film, How To Be A Burglar and people began to take notice. They went to LACC Film School and then in 1993 made Menace II Society a GoodFellas in the ghetto, which made its world premier at the Cannes Film Festival and grossed nearly ten times its $3 million budget. That was followed by the movie Dead Presidents in 1995 and a feature-length documentary American Pimp in 1999/2001. From Hell has been adapted from Alan Moore's graphic bovel about Jack the Ripper. The film was all shot in London and also stars the likes of Robbie Coltrane, Ian Holm and Ian Richardson. A number of studios initially doubted the Hughes brothers, two Americans planning to make a movie set and filmed in London about the capital's most famous murderer, but 20th Century Fox went for it and the film is enjoying huge global success, as well as mixed reviews. The brothers' trademarks have become imagination and excess, their “films look good” so the Skyy Blue campaign can be expected to be awesome. mc.mdbUbitel.es
