Delays of more than 60 minutes were reported at Palma's Son Sant Joan airport yesterday as the overtime ban by air traffic controllers started to bite. The USCA air traffic controllers union called the overtime ban for what has been the busiest weekend of the year so far in Palma and most other airports in Spain. Airport sources said average delays were 15 minutes in arrivals and 27 minutes in departures, but there were delays of more than 60 minutes in 24 of the arrivals and in 41 of the departures. Airport sources said that 10 to 17 minute delays for this time of year, at the peak of the season, are pretty normal. No flights were cancelled and yesterday air traffic controllers handled 910 flights and 141'700 passengers.
