French and Spanish police arrested 14 members of outlawed Marxist group GRAPO yesterday in a joint operation that effectively left the armed group leaderless, Spain's Interior Ministry said. Most members of GRAPO -the First of October Anti-Fascist Resistance Group - are now in jail. The group is occasionally blamed for small bomb attacks on institutions such as banks and armed hold-ups of security vans. Spanish Interior Minister Angel Acebes said eight of the arrests were made in Paris, where most GRAPO leaders were based. This is a very important operation ... which has dealt a severe blow to the central committee of the terrorist group GRAPO, he said.
