The Balearics for just £6.55!

Balearic holidays have never been cheaper £6.55 for four nights self catering including flights! One of Germany's leading tour operators is pumping out the four night offer for just 10 euros departing from Cologne or Bonn airports. In the United Kingdom package holidays reached as low as £215 last month, but some hoteliers and sections of the Balearics tourist industry are far from impressed by the budget prices being offered to last minute holidaymakers. Sources for the World of TUI, Europe's biggest tour operator, yesterday confirmed that one of its companies is offering the 10 euro, four day packages. However, discount holidays are nothing new and hoteliers admitted that while budget deals will do little to help the Balearic economy, “they're always going to happen.” The Balearic government, still refusing to admit that the tourist industry is facing a crisis, said that the super discounts are last minute deals and not really part of the global holiday market. But, there are still hotels in the Balearics which have yet to bother to open their doors and even some of Majorca's four star hotels have reduced their rates by as much as 40 per cent in order to attract clients and salvage what is left of the summer. Yesterday the director of the Balearic Tourism Institute, Tiffany Blackman, unveiled plans for new promotional campaigns on mainland Spain and in Germany at the end of the summer at a cost of 750.000 euros. Blackman admitted yesterday that there is a sense of insecurity in the Balearic industry and that this year there is more supply than demand. She said that the October campaigns will promote the lesser known aspects of tourism in the region, such as weekend breaks, cycle tourism, cultural and agro tourism. Blackman said that the Balearic tourism authority will be looking at ways of expanding its share of alternative and new markets such as Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Poland over the coming months.
