Germany's Christian Democrat Party is considering carrying out an election campaign in Majorca, similar to the one launched for the last German general elections. The party's secretary general, Laurenz Meyer said yesterday that Majorca is an ideal place to campaign if the party is serious about reaching as many potential voters as possible. He also said that the party's president Angela Merkel, who has never been to Majorca, is more than willing to come to the island on her election trail. Campaigning is well underway and Merkel is currently on a tour of Germany, but with a substantial amount of the electorate on holiday in Majorca, the party sees the island as an important vote winning destination.
