The most luxurious and exclusive cruise ship in the world, The World, arrives in Palma today on her first ever visit to the Balearics as part of her inaugural cruise which started on April 12 in Lisbon. The World is no ordinary cruise ship, she is the world's first ocean-going luxury resort with 110 fully furnished apartments and 88 guest suites which can be rented or booked like a normal cruise. Imagine being able to travel the world without leaving home. That is exactly what residents on board The World will be able to do. The World combines all the comforts of a private home with the best features of ocean travel and the environment of an exclusive residential resort. Many of the apartments have already been sold to some of the richest and most influential people in the world. The World of Residensea was conceived and developed by Norwegian Knut U Kloster, Jr., former chairman of Royal Viking Line and Norwegian Cruise Lines and a member of the renowned shipping family that pioneered the modern cruise industry in the early 90*s. The liner was built in Norway at the Fosen Mek. Verksteder shipyard which has a reputation for quality crafstmanship, as well as its technical problem-solving capabilities and timely delivery. The World offers an exclusive lifestyle to residents and guests who share similar passions and pastimes. The community on board has access to two swimming pools, a jet pool, jogging track, paddle tennis courts and a full size tennis court along with unique onboard golf facilities including two full shot driving ranges, golf simulators, real grass putting greens and a full time pro. Residents can also visit The World's spa, health and fitness centre while The World also offers a complete programme of cultural and educational activities. The ship also boasts its own theatre, where live concerts are performed and films screened, a nightclub, a luxury casino and a host of bars and first class international restaurants. This year alone, her first year in service, she will complete 26 voyages and visit 120 ports.
