Majorca is currently the focus of the BBC cameras for a special Summer Holiday Programme. Top television presenter Carol Smilie is on the island, tucked away in the Soller mountains for the fourth and final part of the shoot. The BBC this summer will be screening the special series which will also focus on Florida, France and the Costa del Sol and under the new format for the series, each of the 30 minute programmes will centre their attention on one destination as opposed to flitting between resorts, giving viewers just a brief glimpse of holiday ideas. The Majorcan programme, which will kick off the new series, is broken down into a total of four parts. The crew have been filming a holiday in Magalluf, aimed at the younger fun-loving market, family holidays in Port of Pollensa and Alcudia, Golden Oldie breaks for pensioners on the East Coast and Carol Smilie is presenting the feature on romantic long weekends at top class agro-tourism hotels, walking in the Tramuntana mountains. The idea of the Summer Holiday programme is to give late-bookers some holiday ideas while also suggesting possible destinations for next year. With the United Kingdom booking their holidays unusually late this year, the Majorca programme should catch the market just at the right time and possibly help boost bookings. This year British television has zoomed in on Majorca. After a few years of little prime time coverage on British television screens, millions of viewers will be tuning into Majorca over the next six months. GMTV, the nation's most popular breakfast show broadcast live from the beaches last month and at the end of this month, ITV's Wish You Were Here team will arrive to film a special feature on Majorca and are expected to return later in the year to shoot an extended and more specialised programme on the alternative Majorca. By the time all the programmes have gone to air, more viewers would have watched Majorca than have so far watched England in the World Cup.
