Oasis planing a Majorca spectacular

Majorca is to host its biggest music festival ever this year and it was confirmed yesterday, after much deliberation by Calvia Council, that British band Oasis will be headlining the three-day event. The Mayor of Calvia, Margarita Nájera, who assisted at the presentation of this year's Isladencanta music and arts festival, admitted that “it had been a difficult decision,” but considering it is being held during the tourist season “an alternative event of this kind will be good for tourism and a new event for Calvia.” The festival, which will feature a line up of top bands and DJ's from across Europe, alternative art and fashion, will be held on July 19, 20 and 21 at Es Garroveral, an estate near Magalluf. A number of the artists and photographers exhibiting their work are coming from the United Kingdom. Accompanying Oasis will be the likes of The Charlatans, Ladytron, Lemon Jelly, Fila Brazillia and Mastretta. Last year the festival was held in Esporlas, but moving to Calvia has enabled the organisers to increase the size of the event and provide better facilities. This year's festival however, will be of a kind never seen before in Majorca and is expected to attract thousands of people from across Europe. Initially there were doubts about Oasis and then it was feared that the band would play a few numbers and disappear. However, Oasis is planning its most spectacular show of the year in Majorca and it is likely to be filmed for their new video. The band is about to release its latest album “Heathen Chemistry” in July and the new single “Hindi Times” has already topped the charts across Europe. After the album is released the band will embark on a world tour, but the Oasis's first big gig, their warm up concert before the tour, will be at the Isladencanta festival. Another novelty this year is the Love Boat from Barcelona. On July 18 a special ferry will set sail for Palma with a feast of DJ's and live acts on board with 700 people partying all the way across to the festival and then back again. One of the organisers, Juanjo Arzubialde, said that the festival's aim is to expand the “musical panorama” in Europe by bringing alternative music, art and fashion together. Isladencanta will be holding two special promotional events in London next month to introduce the festival to the music press and cash in the fact that Oasis will be topping the bill. The organisers are expecting 8.000 people every day, but once Oasis fans hear of the band's spectacular in Majorca, the festival is guaranteed to be a huge success. The site will feature two stages this year, a huge marquee, rest areas and internet cafes along with bars and toilets and an area where people can pitch their tents for the three days. Tickets for the festival, which this year has a budget of 842.618 euros, are priced at 70, 60 and 50 euros. A three-day pass is 70 euros, two days, 60 euros and one day 50 euros. Over the next few weeks information about ticket outlets and availability will be released.
