Ibiza is very much the place to be seen this summer

Ibiza is one of the “in” places this summer with the island very much back in fashion with the rich and famous. Over the past few years it has become increasingly popular with the glitterati and this year is taking on the likes of St Tropez as a magnate for the stars. Jade Jagger, who last year opened an exclusive club on the island, will this year be opening a salubrious 12-bedroom hotel with a restaurant which will only be serving organic food. Jagger has introduced a number of British celebrities to the island over the past few years, including model Kate Moss, the Gallaghers, one of whom bought Mike Oldfield's chalet, and her father Mick has also become a regular face on the Ibiza party circuit. Last year the likes of Kylie Minogue, Elle McPeherson, Naomi Campbell, Puff Daddy Coombs, fashion designer Valentino, Robbie Williams and Geri Halliwell, to name just a few, popped up on the party scene and this summer Ibiza is going to prove a paparazzi dream. The island's club scene has developed an international reputation, with some of the best DJ's in the world performing in some of Europe's largest and most exciting venues. It has created a highly lucrative music industry which attracts all the top bands and performers. For example, yesterday Dannii Minogue announced that she is to perform a live PA at Space in Ibiza on July 11. The club is hosting a Tonic party with DJs Alex P and Brandon Block. The Cuban Brothers are also set to play in the back room of the club on the same night. Tonic takes place every Thursday night with a Friday morning after party at Space from June 27. Joining Alex P and Brandon Block for the opening party will be Andy Farley, Eddie Lock and Ray Davies. Later this month, Ibiza's top DJ's will be going on an Ibiza tour of Canada - such is the island's fame for producing some of the best dance music on the planet. Ibiza has also become the Balearic playground for the stars living in Majorca. Many of the Majorca-based celebrities have moved their luxury yachts to Ibiza and when they want some action, head off to the island before returning to the relative tranquility of Majorca. Ironically, while the Ibizan authorities have tried, and failed, to redesign Ibiza's image and establish a “family tourism” market, the island's music and fashion industry, which has put the island firmly back on the map, is booming and proving a huge tourist attraction as the top club destination in the Mediterranean.
