An eyewitness told yesterday of how he had been walking his dog when he stumbled across the alleged fight between a Scottish couple in Magalluf late on Saturday night. He said yesterday that it was his intervention that probably saved the Scottish woman's life. A 30-year-old Scotsman arrested for the attack, the victim's ex-boyfriend, yesterday appeared before a Palma magistrate who ordered that the suspect be held on remand in Palma prison. According to the Guardia Civil yesterday, the man, who faces attempted homicide charges, hit the woman with a broken beer bottle over 40 times, striking her in the face, arm, neck and back. However, despite her injuries and suffering from shock, the scarred and battered victim appeared in court yesterday to give evidence. Apart from the Spanish eyewitness who had been walking his dog, a second eyewitness also appeared in court. The suspect and the victim had been involved in a relationship some years ago, but split up. In March the victim travelled to Scotland and the couple returned to her home in Magalluf. However, earlier this month, the victim reported her boyfriend to the police and told him that she never wanted to see him again.
