The beaches of Minorca are being invaded by jellyfish. According to the Insular Council of Minorca and the company contracted to clean the beaches, the recent unseasonal weather is the cause of the plague of jellyfish, a part of which was spotted on Can Picafort beach in Majorca earlier in the week. All of the local councils have been alerted and have contacted teams of cleaners who are patrolling the beaches, armed with bin-liners and rubber gloves, removing the jelly fish as fast and they are washed up onto the beaches. Chief of the island's beach cleaning services, Francesc Xavier Roig, said yesterday that it is the worst invasion of jelly fish the island has been faced with for the past 30 years and the cleaning companies and local authorities are on an emergency footing as there are huge groups of the jelly fish still out to sea.
