The Guardia Civil of Palmanova have reported four British tourists to Customs officials for allegedly trying to smuggle 2'000 packets of cigarettes and 48 bottles of whisky into Britain. They were apparently surprised packing the cigarettes and whisky into a car in the Avenida de Magalluf. Sources said that the confiscated goods had a value of 36'000 euros in the United Kingdom. Guardia Civil sources said that there were organised networks in the United Kingdom who used tourist trips to Majorca to stock up on tobacco which was later smuggled into Britain. A packet of cigarettes which costs 2.65 euros here could cost as much as 15 euros in the UK.
