Despite the favourable outlook for summer holiday bookings, the slump in hotel bookings since the start of the year has apparently been so severe that a recovery in bookings over the next few months will not be enough to save the situation. A spokesperson for the hotel sector said yesterday that the forecasted improvement in bookings for July and August will only serve to balance out the numbers. The hotel sector is currently locked in tight negotiations with the tour operators in order to try and secure a maximum number of clients, but it appears that in order to boost sales in the Balearics, holiday prices are going to be reduced by 15 to 20 per cent.
