The Captain of the Club de Mar super-yacht Lady Moura, was briefly detained by police as he made a statement on contraband charges. Police are investigating claims that items including jet-skis and boats, were brought into Majorca but were not declared and therefore the necessary taxes and VAT had allegedly not been paid. The items had been stored in a warehouse in Santa Ponsa which police raided. The captain of the yacht, one of the most luxurious in the world, was released and told not to leave the island. Police sources said yesterday that the value of the items they were looking into totalled in excess of 1'000 million pesetas (six million euros). The investigation is still on-going. The Lady Maura, the property of a leading Saudi Arabian doctor has been moored in Palma for many years. During the summer months she leaves her mooring in Palma and heads for the Mediterranean's top luxury resorts such as Cannes and Monaco.
