Palma council, hotel and bar owners along the Playa de Palma yesterday agreed to join forces and make a concerted effort to improve tourism in the area. Together, local businesses and the council are going to decide on what kind of tourism they want in the mid to long term and co-operate in transforming the area's tourist industry. Over the past few years, bar owners, hoteliers and the council have been at each other'¸ throats over noise, safety and the resort's crumbling image, but all parties yesterday agreed to work together for a better future. Last year the Playa de Palma suffered a poor summer and much of the local business community has realised that it can no longer rely on its once loyal German holiday market. Palma police force has also agreed to help reduce crime in the area and improve security this summer.
