Balearics braced for the lottery draw

Tomorrow morning the last ever Christmas lottery draw will be made in pesetas. Over the years the Gordo has brought serious financial winnings to the Balearics, in the late 90s the top prize was won in Coll den Rebassa and tomorrow, most of the Balearics, along with the rest of Spain, will either be glued to the television or listening to radio, hoping that they hold the winning number. The second big lottery draw of the festive season, El Niño, which is drawn on January 6, will be in euros. This year nearly 300'000 million pesetas has been spent on lottery tickets for the Gordo. The most popular lottery number, of which there are no tickets left in Spain, is 11.901, the number released on September 11 when sales of lottery tickets hit a near record high. Buying the “winning” lottery ticket has become an art with people even turning to fortune tellers.
