A recent survey has discovered that the biggest concern for Balearic residents is the state of the region's roads. According to the latest poll carried out by Gadeso last month, 30.9 per cent are worried about the roads. In Majorca and Minorca, the roads and the huge volume of traffic are the main problems while in Ibiza, the biggest worries are drug and alcohol abuse. Overall in the Balearics, drug and alcohol abuse is the second biggest worry with immigration the third primary concern for the population. With regards to the under 30 age group, the main concern is the environment, while the over thirties are more concerned about roads and traffic. At a national level, three quarters of Spaniards are worried about terrorism, followed by unemployment, drugs/alcohol, immigration and the state of the economy. The results of the Balearic survey will be food for thought for the local authorities who have yet to get a grip on the increasing traffic problem.
