Britons suffer almost as much food poisoning while on holiday in the United Kingdom as they do on their European travels. While 15% of UK tourists have had stomach upsets while on holiday in Europe, 10% have had to put up with food poisoning contracted while taking a break in Britain. A survey shows people in northern England have suffered the worst from food eaten in the UK, while Londoners were hardest-hit by upset stomachs in Europe. When it came to worldwide travel, as many as 46% of Londoners had suffered food poisoning while on holiday, and at least one in three people from each region of Britain has also succumbed to the problem, said the survey, by The Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph newspapers. It said Spain topped the table for cuisine casualties, with paella and tapas eating causing stomach problems. Tourists from northern England suffered the least from food poisoning on holiday trips worldwide, while those from Scotland and the East Midlands suffered the least on trips confined to Europe. But 13% (the highest UK figure) of travellers from northern England said they had suffered food poisoning in the UK, while only 7% (the lowest figure) of people from Yorkshire and Humberside had succumbed to food eaten in their own country.
