British in top five big spending nationalities

Tourism spending this summer season nearly reached the one billion peseta mark, three per cent more than during high season last year. The figures were released yesterday by the Balearic Ministry for Tourism and Pedro Cortiña, in charge of the study, said that the total amount of money spent was 997.668 million pesetas, taking the total of money spent by tourists this year to 1.3 billion pesetas. A third was spent in the region's bars and restaurants and 16.3 in supermarkets. 15.8 per cent was spent on non-food stuffs and 9.2 per cent of entertainment. The study also claims that Swiss tourists on average spend the most, 20.606 pesetas per day with the British spending 15.008 pesetas per day and the Germans failing to make the top five big-spending nationalities. The study also ascertained that Danish tourists spend the longest time holidaying in the Balearics, 21 days is the length of an average stay, while the British on average holiday for 10.4 days and the Swiss 11.1 days.
