With the European Commission calling for more frequent price checks before the euro's introduction as growing public awareness of the changeover is accompanied by mounting concern about possible price rises, the Majorcan tourist industry was quick to dispel concerns yesterday. President of the Majorcan Tourist Board, Miguel Vicens, said categorically that the introduction of the single currency will not have an inflationary effect on the tourist sector, and that prices quoted in holiday brochures published this winter will also be in Euros. Vicens is adamant that, in the short term, the Euro will not have any great affect on the tourist industry.
