Palma´s rapid reaction force ready for action

Palma's new rapid response Local Police unit is now ready for immediate action and is due to come in to operation within the next few days. All the officers selected for the crack unit have now completed their 110 hours emergency training and yesterday the Mayor of Palma, Joan Fageda, said that the introduction of the new unit marks “the birth of a new era with the authorities taking on even more responsibility for citizen security and protection.” The rapid reaction squad is made up of 26 men with an average age of 32 and the majority with at least ten years experience in the force. All of the 26 have completed the demanding 110-hour practical and theoretical training course during which they learnt a variety of techniques of how to quickly, safely and efficiently respond to a host of emergency situations. All of the officers have undergone high-speed driving lessons, anti-disturbance training, first aid and physical defence.
